PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia car theft suspect who fled from police outside a hospital earlier this week has been captured in western Pennsylvania, federal authorities said.
Alleem Bordan, 29, was taken into custody at 2 p.m. Thursday at a home in Johnstown in Cambria County, more than 200 miles (321.87 kilometers) from Philadelphia, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Ryan Clark said. Bordan was being held there in the county jail and authorities were seeking to have him extradited back to Philadelphia.
It wasn’t immediately known Thursday if Bordan has retained an attorney.
Bordan, who had his hands restrained behind him, was being walked back to a vehicle outside Temple University Hospital’s Episcopal Campus in northeast Philadelphia on Monday when he bolted from two officers and escaped. He was spotted going to a home near the hospital and then getting into a car.
After federal authorities were called in Tuesday, they found an address in northwest Philadelphia that Bordan was known to frequent, authorities said. He was spotted there the next day but managed to again elude capture when he jumped down a 30-foot embankment onto train tracks and ran off.
Investigators did not pursue him down the embankment because of safety concerns, authorities have said. They used canines to try to follow him along the tracks, but the effort was unsuccessful, with stormy weather cited at the time as a factor.
Bordan was driven to Johnstown on Tuesday night by two “known Philadelphia associates,” Clark said, noting Bordan has “previous criminal history” in Cambria County but not providing further details.
Bordan had been arrested after he was found asleep early Sunday in a car that had been reported stolen Thursday while the owner was making a food delivery. He was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain early Monday, officials said.
